Video “Let The Good Times Roll”:

Bonamassa spielte sowohl Hits als auch weniger bekannte Songs, inklusive „Born Under A Bad Sign“, „Lonesome Whistle Blues“, „Hummingbird“, „Let The Good Times Roll“ und, natürlich B.B. Kings berühmtes „The Thrill Is Gone“.

Joe Bonamassa‘s letztes Studioalbum “Blues Of Desperation” erschien am 25.

Thinking about the „Three Kings“-show at “The Greek Theatre“, what comes to your mind?

1. 0:17
It was a really good show … really gonna enjoy it

You didn’t come to Europe with the “Three Kings“-tour at all. Why?

2. 0:11
Well, we only did about … that’s why we’re here

Please tell us about the initial idea for paying tribute to the „Three Kings“ of Blues:
Freddie, Abert and B.B. King?

3. 0:15
Well, it was a natural extension … obviously Eric Clapton

Talking about Freddie, Albert and B.B. King is talking about the DNA of a modern blues-player, right?!

4. 0:24
Wow, I think so … it was really, really a lot of fun

„Three Kings“ is a tribute, but you’re not a ‚tribute band‘! You are celebrating the music you really enjoy! It features some well known blues-staples and some deeper cuts as well!

5. 0:33
Yeah! I mean, it’s just like … so to speak

You never met Albert King and Freddie King in person. What were, to your mind, the most important aspects looking back onto their careers and their body of work?

6. 0:37
Well, Albert made it funky… undisputed

B.B. King you knew quite well. What did you learn from
him? You opened up for B.B. as a 12 year old!

7. 0:20
A couple of things … like anybody else

Some say B.B. King was a very serious guy but quite funny as well!

8. 0:10
He was! Very, very funny … was 28 at the time

The passing away of B.B. King makes this tribute even more
Important, I think!

9. 0:33
You know, ultimately my biggest … loved the three girl singers

Your personal highlight according to that particular show at „The Greek Theatre“ in Los Angeles, a place you know very well?!

10. 0:39
When I used to live in … on me, you know

Talking about some tracks of that show: You opened up with the Freddie King-cut „See See Baby“!

11. 0:16
„See See Baby“, yeah … great singer that he was

„Sittin‘ On The Boat Dock“ is another interesting song by Freddie King!

12. 0:06
Yeah! Another pre, you know … Freddie trying to have a hit

„I’ll Play The Blues For You“ by Albert King?

13. 0:15
It’s a soul-song! … cut by Albert

Albert King sang „Angel Of Mercy“ as well!

14. 0:05
Yeah! A great song … and it’s “Killer“!

And again „Cadillac Assembly Line“, a brilliant track by Albert King!

15. 0:23
A kind of a strange song … I can sing like that

„Let The Good Times Roll“, an all-time-favourite by B.B. King!

16. 0:08
Got to do it! … that’s the definitive version

Another real highlight from the show is B.B. King’s „Nobody Loves You But My Mother“!

17. 0:10
Yeah! I love that song … it’s a joy to play

As well as B.B. King’s classic „Boogie Woogie Woman“!

18. 0:12
Yeah, ist just an … cause the wanted to dance

Yeah, it was the flavour of the day back then!

19. 0:01
Exactly!

„Hummingbird“ is a pivotal moment right at the end of the show!

20. 0:24
„Hummingbird“, which was the … big stars of the show

Same as „Born Under A Bad Sign“ from Booker T & The MG’s!

21. 0:29
Yeah, yeah! I mean, we had to … and „The Thrill Is Gone“

The very last track is a studio-recording called “Riding With The Kings“:

22. 0:15
Yeah, that was something … John Hyatt-song, it’s a great song

Mahalia, one of your three background singers, is doin great on that track. She has a really good voice…and a well known father, as well!

23. 0:13
Mahalia Barnes, yeah! Jimmy Barnes’ daughter … she’s got the whole thing done

The setlist „Live At The Greek Theatre“ includes 21 live-tracks. Your favourite ones from that show?

24. 0:16
I think our version of … something I’m very proud of

What’s really cool is that you put your own flavour to these classics!

25. 0:18
I can only sing them and … your own interpretation, yeah!

What makes the Blues vital today and what compells him to carry the torch?

26. 0:31
I think the fact that … really works in the long term

And your future plans? A new record with Beth Hart is coming and rumors been spread about a Black Country Communion-album as well. Will you tour with the guys?

27. 0:19
I don’t know … I got 30 more. 30 more!
