Still und heimlich veröffentlicht Elvis Perkins, der Sohn – das ist kein Geheimnis mehr – von Schauspieler Anthony Perkins, sein drittes Album.

heart
installed

of
his
own
bacon‐broken
one,

‘man’.

I
thought
we’d
make
a
documentary
and
hear
Arnaud’s
experience
of
trans‐
species
metamorphosis.
We
interviewed
him
on
film
and
fit
what
we
could
of
his
words
into
the
first
leg
of
the
song.
He
is
French
so
we
gave
him
his
native
tongue
in
subtitles.
It
was
shot
in
16mm
black
&
white
and
color
by
Ashley
Connor
(Angel
Olsen,
Jenny
Lewis,
Jenny
Hval)
and
produced
by
her
frequent
collaborator,
Zia
Anger,
I
Aubade
singer,
Cornelia
Livingston
and
myself.
Along
with
Arnaud,
several
other
beings,
in
sanctuary
from
the
iniquity
of
the
factory
farm,
are
also
featured.”
„I had the impulse to hear what would happen if left to and with my own devices,” sagt Perkins über den Entstehungsprozess. Und weiter: „Not surprisingly this is the thing that sounds the most, to me, like myself.“
Auf sich selbst zurückgeworfen aber nicht ohne Unterstützung entstand so sein bisher nicht nur persönlichstes sondern auch eindrucksvollstes Werk. Spleenig ja, genial ganz bestimmt. Voller wahnwitziger Ideen und exzentrischer Texte. Ein regelrechtes lo-fi Meisterwerk. Und so unmittelbar in seiner Wirkung, daß es unmöglich ist sich zu entziehen.

I Aubade ist wie Elvis Perkins berichtet „the product of my own placement of microphone to source in the period between February 2012 & December 2013.“ Für ihn eine neuartige Herangehensweise, verließ man sich bei früheren Aufnahmen doch auf eine eher konventionelle Arbeitsweise im Studio. So stand ihm bei seinem Debütalbum „Ash Wednesday“ (2007) Produzent und Freund Ethan Gold zur Seite und auch Elvis Perkins in Dearland und die darauffolgende Doomsday EP (2009) waren Gemeinschaftsprodukte. Das soll nicht heißen, daß an seinem neuen Album nicht eine ganze Schar an Freunden/Musikerkollegen beteiligt gewesen wären, darunter u.a. Nick Kinsey und Wyndham BoylanGarnett von der Band DEARLAND, Drummer Otto Hauser und Multi-Instrumentalist Frank Fairfield. Die Sängerin Cornelia Livingston kann man gleich auf mehreren Stücken hören und auch seine langjährige Kollaborateurin Becky Stark von LAVENDER DIAMOND hat einen Gastauftritt. Gemischt wurde das Album von Jesse Lauter mit Elvis Perkins. Alan Silverman hat gemastered.
